A Space of My Own

Yesterday I had the pleasure of moving.  Yep.  I got to pack up my life and move it across the city only a few days before nano starts.  And it was chaos, because while I might be good at organization when it comes to my writing, in my day to day life, I tend to be fairly disorganized.

There was one thing that I got out of it, though.  My office.

Before I had one room that had my bed and my tiny little desk.  I spent all of my time in there, not really having any other space in the house that I could call mine.  This might not seem so bad, but it affected my sleeping patterns, because I spent so much time in the room, it was no longer for sleeping.  I found it hard to get to sleep every night.

Now, though, I have a bed room and an office, two rooms that I can make whatever I want.  One that's for sleeping, one that's for writing.  Somewhere that's set up so that I can actually concentrate on what I'm doing rather than being distracted by everything around me.

Granted, a lot of what distracts me is on my computer (which is, of course, in my office) but I think that the setting makes it a lot harder for me to allow myself to procrastinate and not get things done.

Anyway, the point of the story is that I set up my office today.  I bought a new desk (which is much bigger than the old one) and some organizational supplies.  I even have a bookshelf dedicated to all of my writing stuff.  Notebooks, old stories and the like.

It's not completely done, of course.  I haven't managed to get my bedroom set up, and I know there's another box with more of my writing supplies in it.  I also have some pictures to put up on the wall, along with my map.  And there's a shelf that I'm planning on filling with the books of my favourite authors.

In other words, it's a work in process.  Eventually this is going to be the office I want it to be, and I can't wait to see it when it's done.

Well, I better be off to start getting my room unpacked.  It's going to look so good!

  1. Congrats on the new place. I'm sure that once you get everything unpacked and away your place will look awesome.

I live in a similar setting, as your old place. One large room with my bed, desk, and my bookshelves. half of the room is set up by my roommate so that he can fix bikes, while the rest is mine. I'm having a fun time trying to convince him to move his stuff over to give me more room so I can properly divide the room in two.
